NORTH GATEWAY RECYCLING CENTER

Oakland, CA

Since 2018, RPR Architects has been working as the Project Manager and Owner’s Representative for the 170,000 s.f. North Gateway Recycling Facility on the former Oakland Army Base. The recycling climate in Oakland is a highly politicized and heavily regulated environment that requires not only a high level of detail, but also the ability to manage and interpret the various needs and expectations of regulatory, owner and neighbor interests.

Phase I entailed guiding the Owners through the entitlement process including schematic design, submittal for a Major Conditional Use Permit and public outreach. Phase II entailed working with the Owners, their legal counsel and consultant teams to prepare and obtain the Transfer Solid Waste Permit. RPR has also managed the project team that includes geotechnical, surveying, environmental, architectural, engineering and equipment design teams through the permitting process. RPR has also played a role in facilitating the land purchase agreement between CWS and the City of Oakland.
